Victor Webanyama as the best NBA prospect ever?

People are calling him the best NBA prospect ever. Ever. A couple of days ago, I was working out and I saw Victor Webanyama highlights on the TV. This was the first time I ever laid eyes on him. People say I'm weird for never hearing about him since I am a college basketball geek. I would say this. I was amazed. Immediately after watching those highlights, I got my phone and texted my friend. I said, "This might be the best basketball player I have ever seen." And then, my friend just said casually, "Yeah, he is probably the best NBA prospect ever over Lebron and Kobe." I laughed out loud. He's good but not that good, right? Well, after researching and watching almost every highlight reel on him, I was dead set that this might be the best prospect the NBA has ever seen.

"He is a generational talent." - LeBron James

Overview of Victor Webanyama

For those who do not know Victor Webanyama that well, he plays for the French club Metropolitans 92. He currently stands at 7-foot-4 and his wingspan is 8-feet long. So after reading this, you probably think he is just a big man and stands low in the paint and does post hook shots. No, not at all. Only at 229 pounds, he does it all on the court. He shoots from three, knocks down contested shots, and will make a counter move on you that will make you fall to the ground. After missing a shot from the low post, I have witnessed multiple times him running full sprint down the court and blocking the opponent's shot on the background. As Lebron said, he is a "generational talent." After playing twelve games for the Metropolitans 92, he is averaging 23.6 points per game, 9.4 rebounds per game, 2.5 assists and 2.8 blocks per game. He is currently shooting 51.8 percent from the field and making 28.8 percent of his shots. That is a very good three point percentage for someone who is 7-foot-4.

So, the best NBA prospect of all time? After doing a lot of research, I think he is. And the hype around him sure seems so as well. Even though it may seem that Lebron's legacy in high school at St. Vincent- St. Mary High School surpasses Victor's with 2,657 points, 892 rebounds, and 523 assists, Victor's playing style and where he plays outweighs Lebron's. Victor Webanyama plays overseas, and overseas ball has been on the rise. Overseas ball wasn't a big thing when Lebron was in high school. Victor Webanyama is putting up these numbers against really skilled and high caliber overseas players. Don't get me wrong, LeBron James was playing against some good teams like Oak Hill and IMG academy. But overseas ball has been evolving and more and more players have been going from overseas straight to the NBA. Victor has had the right competition and preparation for him to be successful in the NBA.
